International patients with a history of coronary stenting, recurrent chest pain or complex coronary disease sometimes want an independent cardiology review from a major Chinese cardiovascular centre. This guide explains when a review in Beijing may be relevant, what records you need, and how the pathway works. It sits alongside our specialist second opinion service and the Fuwai Hospital guide.
Emergency warning: If you have severe, persistent or worsening chest pain, pain spreading to the arm or jaw, breathlessness, sweating, fainting or acute deterioration, seek emergency care locally immediately. Planning treatment abroad must never delay urgent local care.
When a cardiology review may be relevant
- Previous PCI / coronary stent and you want an independent view.
- Recurrent or unexplained chest pain after treatment.
- A coronary angiography report you want re-examined.
- Complex or multi-vessel coronary disease.
- Conflicting advice about further stenting or bypass surgery.
- Atrial fibrillation (AFib) or another arrhythmia β palpitations, rate- or rhythm-control questions, or whether catheter ablation or left-atrial appendage closure (LAAC) is worth discussing.
Atrial fibrillation & arrhythmia review
A growing share of the international heart enquiries we see are about atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias rather than stents. A specialist review can consider your ECGs and any Holter / monitor data, rate- and rhythm-control medication, stroke-risk and anticoagulation strategy, and whether catheter ablation or LAAC may be options to raise with the hospital. Do not stop any anticoagulant (blood thinner) without medical advice β stopping suddenly can carry a stroke risk.
Why Fuwai is relevant
Fuwai Hospital is one of China's largest and most established cardiovascular centres, handling very high volumes of complex coronary and structural heart cases. We help international patients access it through the international-patient pathway; we are not an official representative of the hospital, and acceptance and clinical decisions rest entirely with its specialists.
What records are needed
A useful review depends on complete records. Where available, gather:
- Coronary angiography report and the angiography images (CD / DICOM).
- PCI / stent procedure report (number, type and location of stents).
- Recent ECG and echocardiogram.
- Troponin / cardiac enzymes if you have had recent symptoms.
- Bloods: lipids, kidney function, glucose / HbA1c.
- Current medications β aspirin, clopidogrel or ticagrelor, statin, beta-blocker, and any blood-pressure or diabetes drugs.
- A clear symptom timeline.
See how to prepare medical records for a second opinion for a checklist.
How the review works
- Case brief β we organise and translate your records into a structured summary.
- Pathway matching β the appropriate cardiology route via the international department.
- Registration β passport-based real-name registration if an appointment or written review is arranged.
- Specialist review β a written professional opinion, or an in-person consultation if you travel.
- Next steps β any further tests or treatment are decided only by the hospital.
Costs and timing
A written specialist review starts from $400, quoted per case; an in-person pathway is quoted after records review. There is no guaranteed admission. See the pricing page and start a free assessment.
